Making Thinking Visible

Umbrella Family and Child Centres of Hamilton, a non-profit child care organization operating programs in 23 Hamilton-Wentworth District Elementary Schools, is pleased to participate in the 'Making Thinking Visible' project, which began in the fall of 2006, thanks to funding made available through the City of Hamilton - Best Start Initiative. Another benefit of the Best Start Initiative is the Universal Preschool program, which is available in some centres (*) located in Hamilton's east end. In an effort to better prepare children for their kindergarten years, this free, 1/2 day program provides children with opportunities to become more familiar with the school setting, meet new friends and participate in a wide variety of activities aimed at increasing skills and abilities in the year before the child attends Junior Kindergarten.
